Writing in the White Space: Taking the Less Traveled Road

In the beginning, when choosing to walk on the less traveled road, there’s no need for a destination–the joy of the journey is enough to inspire and sustain the strength for each step.

So it has been for me on my journey to share beauty minutes.

Joyful. Beautiful. Inspiring. Strengthening.

And then, last week, I found myself at a fork in the road, with an even less traveled path on my right. I stopped and searched for direction:

This is what the Lord says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” Jeremiah 6:16 NIV

I asked. And heard this:

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”  Isaiah 30:21 NIV

Turn right, said the voice behind me.

Lay everything down here and walk alone for the next leg of the journey.

Write your story, your WHOLE story and finish it.

Pursue your healing, your WHOLE healing, and finish it.

Enter the cocoon of my transforming grace, and allow me to complete the work I have begun in you.

Because the soul that sees beauty may sometimes walk alone.

I must leave you here, dear friends and fellow beauty seekers. I must turn right and follow this road less traveled–alone.

He is always faithful to lead us upon the path He has uniquely crafted for each of us.

We must be faithful to follow.

Even when it means letting go of something dear. Wandering into the unknown. Testing our survival skills in the wilderness. Acting the opposite of what the world tells us to do. Daring to discover. Downsizing. . . to the divine.

On May 1st, 2013 I will turn right. This blog will be laid on the path as an offering of praise and worship.

I thank God for this journey, for teaching me how Beauty chases us, catches us, and propels us forward into living wholly for Him.

It’s been a joy sharing the journey with you.

Praying for His beauty to propel you forward on the path He is revealing to you.

Writing in the White Space: The Colors of Faith

You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors.                                             James 1:3 MSG

As I  ponder this scripture I wonder, what are the colors of faith?

I head to the White Space, my creative writing and pondering place, to explore the images and words that spin out from the inspiration.

I start with BLUE.

And I simply write. No editing, no over-thinking, no fear.

Writing in the White Space I write for no audience, with no concern of whether others will “get it.” I write for the beauty of writing…something, anything, that captures the images of the holiness of blue…for me.

If you were to enter your White Space and write without fear, what holiness would you see in BLUE?

EVERY DAY, from today forward, you can link your own blog posts that tie to the theme of that day’s Beauty Minute post.

If you don’t have a blog go to the Facebook page and share there. We are all created to create, and when we create something that has never before been created, and could only be created through the uniqueness of us . . . beauty happens. And we create more beauty together–as a chorus, a field of wildflowers, a gallery of paintings, and a library full of books.

We are the Body of Christ, each a vital and beautiful part of the whole.

Linda CrawfordBLUE is beautiful.

Share your beauty.

Writing in the White Space: Resurrection

This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike “What’s next, Papa?” Romans 8:15 MSG

Praying for the beauty of the resurrection life of Jesus for you today.

Writing in the White Space: Cold

Writing in the White Space began in the white space of my journal.

white space I wrote that white space was “a canvas to be painted, a sky with endless possibilities for combinations of light and dark to streak across it . . . art waiting to happen.”

In the White Space of life I search for the prism of God . . . white space journal

and discover the colors that make life truly beautiful.

The snow clings to the branches as long as the temperature is rightkeeping it light.

But when heat begins to melt the bonds of cold…flakes turn to slush.snowflakes

Wishing to stay afloat, dreaming of a breeze to fly upon–no longer. Now water, it must fully fall to the ground to impart its own life to the soil of the earth below.

Yet it will live again, rise as vapor to mingle and dance upon the atmosphere…to become…

warm as tears, cold as art.

My thoughts long to be weightless as vapor. Not tears, but snowflakes, chilled to icy perfection so they may joyfully float as they fall.

They long to be cold, and cold is not bad.

Cold is when rest cycles start, when hidden rejuvenation happens. Growth slows, but life is not barren, just hidden–blanketed by air and water-light, dripping slowly to nourish.

Melting so deliberately.

Lord, may my inspirations float as unique flakes and be directed by the wind of your Holy Spirit. May they be free, joyful and happy just to be.

Others may scoff, criticize, and ridicule what I create, but there’s no denying the perfection of a snowflake–and isn’t that what all art is?

You see it, and that needs to be enough for me.

Without you I am nothing; have nothing. Not one single flake, one breath, one thought, one drop of blood.

Life — let mine be left and lived and shared.

No other life but this one can I lay at your feet.

Make me a melting offering.

Today, I pray…to be a flake.

Or at least a little more flake-y. 🙂

Writing in the White Space: Joy Floats

Oh! May the God of green hope fill you up with joy, fill you up with peace, so that your believing lives, filled with the life-giving energy of the Holy Spirit, will brim over with hope! Romans 15:13 MSG

JOY floats

Joy is a red balloon floating into a deep blue sky…far above the noise and clutter and confusion of earth.

Joy floats.

It’s free and I wonder sometimes where the helium of joy can be found in this earth-bound life.

But then I breathe . . . and the very breath of life is inhaled deep into my being from the source of life.

Joy takes flight again.

I float above life. I touch the sky and laugh ’till it hurts, tickled by the freedom of the reality of it.

Joy floats, and I soar with it and upon the breath of it.

And live beyond myself . . . again.

Linda CrawfordEach Monday we celebrate the beauty of words…written in the white space–the empty room of freedom of thought–where words are created that sing, dance and illustrate life’s beauty.
